Seed Mat – Radish

If you haven’t tried our seed mats before, they’re a really simple way of laying out your garden and growing vegetables quickly. Each mat contains soil and seeds; simply place the mat in the garden and provide adequate water – they practically grow themselves!

I’m  using the Garden’s Alive square foot seed mats in 2 different areas this year. The first is the Square Foot Gardening Seed Mat – Radish mix in a 7 gallon Grow Tub. You can see the square shape of the mat where the seed has germinated. These are about 2 weeks old.

The second is the Square Foot Gardening Seed Mat – Envy Carrot. These are being grown in my raised bed at the community garden. Carrots can be hard to germinate because they take patience. If I am growing them in rows, I often add a couple radish seeds to mark the rows. Radish germinates much quicker and will act as an indicator to where rows are while you wait for carrots. The square foot mat does the same thing; the paper backing clearly marks where the carrots are and will disintegrate during germination.
